One Great George Street is chosen by Mayor of London, Boris Johnson as the London Media Centre

One Great George Street, Westminster’s premier conference, meeting and events venue has been chosen by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, to house the London Media Centre for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The venue’s selection success followed a competitive pitch between a significant number of renowned London venues. The venue’s unrivalled location, in the heart of Westminster, is close to Whitehall, Parliament Square, St James’s Park and near to iconic London landmarks which include Big Ben and The London Eye. The location, coupled with the outstanding service and superior conference and event facilities, highlights One Great George Street as first choice for the London Media Centre.

Hundreds of international journalists are expected to descend on the capital to cover the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and One Great George Street will provide them with a central base to conduct media business in the heart of the capital.

The venue has award-winning disabled facilities. Two unisex wheelchair accessible toilets, strobe fire alarms for the hearing impaired, ramps (enabling better access to stages) and hearing loops are also in place at the venue; and service dogs welcome. The Sesame Access System allows wheelchair users and those with limited mobility to access the building with ease.

Successfully satisfy and fulfil journalist’s requirements, the award-winning venue will: be open 24 hours a day, have workspace for over 250 journalists, be able to accommodate 200 members of the international media for sit-down press conferences during the Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as offering additional offices for photographers and in-house dining facilities.

“This is a momentous accolade for One Great George Street,” enthused Director of Sales and Marketing, Wendy Greenhalgh. She continued, “The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be one of the most significant sporting events in British history and we are delighted to be involved. Being selected as the dedicated media centre for the games, not only emphasises the venue’s exceptional location, close to London’s iconic landmarks and many of the Olympic events, but is also a testament to the excellent service provided by the team here. During the bidding process we revealed a broad understanding of the importance of flexibility to the success of the media centre and successfully demonstrated how our world-class venue with its plethora of exceptional conference, meetings and dining facilities would accommodate the diverse needs of the international media.”
